Eid al-Adha 2027: perform your sacrifice with video proof in Madagascar

There are no days in the year more beloved to Allah than the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah. And the day of sacrifice — the 10th of Dhul Hijjah — is the greatest of them all. It is on that day that millions of Muslims around the world perform the Eid al-Adha sacrifice, in memory of the absolute submission of the Prophet Ibrahim ﷺ.

In 2027, Eid al-Adha is expected on Sunday 16 May, subject to the sighting of the moon. The days of sacrifice run until Wednesday 19 May — four days during which your sheep can be sacrificed in accordance with the Sunnah.

At Qurban, your sacrifice is carried out in Madagascar by our field team. Your name is spoken at the moment of the sacrifice. You receive personalized video proof by email and WhatsApp within hours of the slaughter. The meat is distributed in full to families in need in Madagascar.

Why Eid al-Adha is the greatest festival in Islam

The story of the sacrifice of Ibrahim ﷺ

It all begins with a test. Allah commands His Prophet Ibrahim ﷺ to sacrifice what is dearest to him in the world: his son Ismail ﷺ. Ibrahim ﷺ obeys, without hesitating, in total submission to the divine will. At the moment he is about to carry out the act, Allah stops him and puts a magnificent ram in Ismail's place. That gesture establishes forever the bond between faith, obedience and generosity.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“Indeed, the greatest of days before Allah is the Day of Sacrifice, then the day of al-Qarr.”

Reported by Abu Dawud and Ahmad

Eid al-Adha — also called Eid al-Kebir or Qurbani — commemorates this founding act every year. Every Muslim who has the means is called to perform their own sacrifice, continuing a gesture thousands of years old.

The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah: the best moment of the year to act

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these days [Dhul Hijjah].”

Reported by al-Bukhari

In 2027, these ten blessed days begin on 7 May. The Day of Arafah — the 9th of Dhul Hijjah — falls on 15 May. It is the day of the recommended fast, the one that wipes away the sins of two years. The next day, Eid. And the sacrifice.

Is it obligatory to sacrifice a sheep for Eid al-Adha?

This is one of the most frequent questions — and the scholars' answers deserve to be presented precisely.

What the Islamic schools of law say

The status of the Eid al-Adha sacrifice varies according to the madhhab:

  • Hanafi school: the sacrifice is wajib (obligatory) for every Muslim who is free, adult, of sound mind, resident (not travelling) and in possession of the nisab.
  • Maliki and Hanbali schools: it is wajib for some and sunnah mu'akkadah (emphasized Sunnah, not to be neglected) for others, depending on the circumstances.
  • Shafi'i school: it is considered sunnah mu'akkadah, strongly recommended but not obligatory.

Imam Ibn Daqiq al-Id said: “There is no disagreement that the udhiyah is one of the rites of Islam.”

The warning of the Prophet ﷺ

Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever has the means but does not perform the udhiyah, let him not come near our place of prayer.”

Reported by Ibn Majah

Whichever school of law you follow, one thing is certain: if you have the means, the Eid sacrifice is an act that Islam calls for insistently. And from Europe, where performing this sacrifice has become complex and costly, Qurban offers you the simplest, the most compliant and the most impactful solution.

What are the rules of the Eid al-Adha sacrifice?

The conditions of validity for the animal

For a sacrifice to be Islamically valid, the animal must meet precise criteria established by the Sunnah:

  • The species: sheep, goat, cow or camel. At Qurban, we sacrifice sheep, the animal most commonly associated with the prophetic Sunnah.
  • The minimum age: the sheep must be at least one year old. In accordance with the conditions of validity mentioned by the Prophet ﷺ, all our animals meet this requirement.
  • The condition of the animal: it must not be blind, lame, sick or so emaciated that its thinness is obvious. Our sheep are raised outdoors, selected and checked before every sacrifice.
  • The person performing the sacrifice: they must be Muslim and pronounce the Bismillah at the moment of the sacrifice. Every Qurban sacrifice is carried out by a Muslim slaughterer, in front of our field team and under the supervision of the Jamiatul Ulama of Madagascar.

The conditions of time: when is the sacrifice valid?

The sacrifice may only be performed after the Eid prayer. It cannot be carried out on the night before Eid, nor before the prayer. When it is performed by proxy — as with Qurban — the reference time is that of the Eid prayer in the country where the sacrifice takes place.

The valid days for the sacrifice are the 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th of Dhul Hijjah — that is, the four days of Eid al-Adha 2027, from 16 to 19 May. Beyond the 13th, the Eid sacrifice is no longer valid.

Dividing the meat: what the Sunnah recommends

Tradition recommends dividing the meat into three parts: one for the family, one for relatives and friends, one for the poor. At Qurban, all of the meat is distributed to families in need in Madagascar — a way of amplifying the solidarity dimension of the sacrifice to the maximum.

What are the rituals of Eid al-Adha?

Eid al-Adha is not only about the sacrifice. It is a day shaped by precise spiritual acts, performed in an order recommended by the Sunnah.

Fasting on the Day of Arafah (9 Dhul Hijjah)

The day before Eid, 15 May 2027, is the Day of Arafah. Fasting on that day is strongly recommended. The Prophet ﷺ said that this fast wipes away the sins of the year gone by and of the year to come. It is one of the most meritorious acts of the entire Islamic year — accessible to everyone, whatever their means.

The Eid al-Adha prayer

On the morning of 16 May 2027, the day begins with the Eid prayer, performed in congregation in a mosque or a musalla. Unlike Eid al-Fitr, it is recommended not to eat before the Eid al-Adha prayer — the first meal of the day comes afterwards, ideally with meat from the sacrifice.

The takbir of Dhul Hijjah

From the 1st of Dhul Hijjah — 7 May 2027 — until the end of the days of tashriq, it is recommended to multiply the takbirs: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, la ilaha illallah, wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillahil hamd. After every obligatory prayer, in the streets, on public transport, at home. It is one of the most beloved forms of dhikr of this period.

The sacrifice: the central act of the festival

After the Eid prayer, the sacrifice is performed. At Qurban, your sheep is sacrificed in Madagascar during the days of Eid, in accordance with the Islamic rules. You receive your personalized video by email and WhatsApp within hours of the sacrifice — the proof that your act of worship was truly performed in your name.

Shaving or cutting the hair

Anyone intending to sacrifice is recommended not to cut their hair or their nails from the 1st of Dhul Hijjah until their sacrifice has been performed. This recommendation was established by the Prophet ﷺ as a sign of solidarity with the pilgrims in the state of ihram in Mecca.

How much does the Eid al-Adha sacrifice cost?

The real problem with sacrificing in Europe in 2027

It is a reality every Muslim in Europe knows: sacrificing a sheep locally has become complicated and very expensive. Approved slaughterhouses are fully booked within the first hours. Slots are rare, reserved weeks in advance. And prices have reached prohibitive levels.

350 €... 380 €... sometimes 400 € or more for a single sheep in France. Without counting the queues, the logistics of the meat, and the litres of freezer space it takes up.

What Qurban offers you: half the price, infinitely more impact

With Qurban, you perform your Eid al-Adha sacrifice in Madagascar for far less than you would pay in Europe, and on top of that:

  • A personalized video proving the sacrifice was truly carried out in your name
  • Islamic compliance verified by the Jamiatul Ulama of Madagascar
  • Meat distributed in full to Malagasy families in need
  • A field team present on site, in villages that are sometimes unreachable

Since 2021, 6,000+ families have chosen Qurban to carry out their sacrifices. More than 90,000 meals have been distributed thanks to what they gave.

What sets Qurban apart from every other provider

Human Appeal does not send you a video. No name spoken. No proof in real time. With Qurban, every sacrifice is different.

Personalized video proof: our commitment since 2021

Your first name is spoken. You see the sheep. You receive the video within hours of the sacrifice, by email and WhatsApp. Not a month later. Not a PDF certificate. A real video, proving that your qurbani was truly performed in your name.

Transparent and sincere

Salam. I find it hard to believe how transparent and sincere this is. I adopted this approach because I feel truly at ease instead of patching things up. At least with Qurban it's clear, clean, unambiguous, and people genuinely benefit from the sacrifice. Thank you

A big thank you to Qurban

Qurban has always held a special place in my heart. It's a moment when I refocus on the essentials: faith, self-giving and sharing. A big thank you to QURBAN who allowed us to perform our sacrifice and in a way to witness it through this short video.

Eid al-Adha FAQ

Eid al-Adha 2027 is expected on Sunday 16 May 2027, subject to the sighting of the moon. The festival lasts four days, until Wednesday 19 May. Sacrifices can be carried out from 16 to 19 May, after the Eid prayer.

Yes. It is the heart of the Qurban service. When you place your order, you enter the first name to be used. That name is spoken by the person performing the sacrifice at the moment it takes place, and you will hear it clearly in the video sent by email and WhatsApp within the following hours.

According to the majority of scholars, one sheep or one goat is valid for a single person and the members of their household. If you wish to sacrifice in the name of several distinct people, it is recommended to have as many sheep. A cow, on the other hand, counts as seven sacrifices and can be shared between seven people. At Qurban, we offer individual, personalized sacrifices.

Yes, absolutely. Sacrifice by proxy is an Islamically validated practice. You appoint Qurban to act in your name, and we provide you with video proof that it was carried out. The geographical location of the sacrifice does not affect its Islamic validity.

Sheep stocks are limited. To guarantee your sacrifice during the days of Eid, we recommend booking as early as possible, without waiting for the final days before the festival. Orders placed too late may not be fulfilled during the valid days of sacrifice.

Yes, in full. At Qurban, the meat is neither sold, nor stored, nor consumed by our team. It is distributed entirely to families in need in Madagascar, as our field team documents in every video.

Yes, and it is in fact a Sunnah. The Prophet ﷺ used to sacrifice two sheep at Eid — one for his family, one for those most in need. Each sacrifice results in its own personalized video.

Stocks are limited. Book before it is too late.

Every year it is the same story. For the first few weeks, everyone waits. Then, as Eid approaches, orders pour in and availability runs out. Some miss their sacrifice for lack of planning.

We will tell you the truth: our sheep are limited in number. Once they are gone, we can no longer fulfil new orders for the days of Eid.

Since 2021, Qurban has carried out 6,000+ sacrifices and distributed the equivalent of 90,000+ meals in the name of its contributors. This year again, we will be on the ground in Madagascar during Eid — in the villages, on the impassable roads, with your first name on our lips at the moment of the sacrifice.

Your sheep is waiting for you. Book it now.
